Major Healthcare Company – Aggregate Spend / Payment Disclosure
After a successful rollout of an enterprise aggregate spend solution to the companies in its Pharmaceutical sector, this client chose to expand the program to its Medical Devices unit. They also designed enhancements to comply with the pending “Physician Payments Sunshine Act” federal legislation. Parallax helped each operating unit with the business process redesign activities that were central to the project, and built a project management toolkit that provided the structure for each company’s implementation. Parallax also provided project management resources for several of the operating units that were implementing the solution. In addition, Parallax developed requirements for a new due diligence system driven by the need to comply with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA).
Major Investment Bank – Firm-wide Record Retention Program
The firm replaced their decentralized approach to recordkeeping with a central program that manages the full lifecycle of hardcopy as well as electronic records, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations across 38 countries. Parallax joined the PMO and contributed to all areas of the program’s design, interfaced with the project’s technology team, and built a framework to capture the full text of hundreds of legal and regulatory requirements and link them to the firm’s central record classification taxonomy.
Major Pharmaceutical Company – Grants and Transactions Program
In response to increasing pressures to control and disclose exchanges of value with health care providers, the company’s Health Care Compliance department redesigned its program to review, approve and report on educational grants, charitable contributions, consulting agreements, and other financial arrangements with customers. Parallax built a custom application to manage the request and approval workflows, allowing the company to create consolidated reports on these interactions for the first time. The system won an internal award for innovation and process improvement. In subsequent phases, Parallax helped the company transition to a central enterprise system covering all pharmaceutical operating units, which integrated these processes with the company’s payment processing system to enforce compliance and further enhance reporting capabilities that allow the company to comply with disclosure requirements, including the Physician Payments Sunshine Act.
In addition, Parallax helped this client to develop a web-based application for the Human Resources department to conduct performance reviews and development planning online. In another project, we assisted in the development of a new system to manage pricing contracts with volume purchasers of the company’s products.
Health Department of a Large US City – Tuberculosis Registry
This big-city Health Department needed a new solution to replace a mainframe-based legacy case management system used for monitoring Tuberculosis cases and reporting them to the US Centers for Disease Control. Several commercial products were identified, as well as systems used by other state and municipal health departments who had built their own solution and were willing to share their technology with other local government agencies. Parallax first assessed and documented the Department’s specific requirements and then evaluated the available solutions to determine the systems with the best fit for this city’s specific needs. A sophisticated scoring methodology was used to ensure that the most important requirements received higher weight than “wish-list” items.
Large Pharmaceutical Company – Talent Management System
The Human Resources department of this major pharmaceutical company engaged Parallax to manage a project to implement a commercial talent management solution that provided succession planning, performance reviews, and development planning in a web-based software solution. Parallax led the requirements-gathering activities and then managed the vendor to customize their solution for the client’s specific needs.
E-Commerce and Database Marketing Company – Technology Management
Parallax provided full technology management services for this Internet company that serves the direct marketing and catalog industry. We managed the creation of an online shopping portal for over 55 catalog brands, unifying their products into a consolidated product database and then integrating their fulfillment networks into a single online shopping experience. In addition, we built a collaborative marketing database that consolidated the customer lists of all the participating catalogs, and provided prospecting, list rental and campaign management solutions.
Large Property and Casualty Insurer – Web-based Decision Support System
Parallax helped the company to transform its commercial risk management service, which it offered its customers to allow sophisticated data analysis and reporting of their insurance claim activity, into a web-based business. The new system was the first insurance risk management system to be offered over the Web. Parallax managed the development of several product modules to make the system more flexible and able to adapt to changing requirements.
Major Insurance Company – Class Action Settlement Claims Processing System
Faced with a $2 billion national class action settlement and a class of thousands of claimants, this insurance company built a large-scale imaging and workflow application to allow the scoring of claims and calculation of remedies to be offered. The solution was built under the oversight of several states’ insurance regulators who had approved the settlement and required strict adherence to the settlement rules. Parallax provided project management for the development of the application that claims processing staff used to process each claim.
